The French Ambassador to Uganda His Excellency Xavier Sticker has committed to strengthen community resilience through food and ecotourism among other interventions.

He said the move builds on the best practices from the development model aimed at asset creation and farmer market support which improves household food security thus enhancing community resilience.

Talking to journalists at the end of his one day working visit on Tuesday [May 23, 2023] at Utut village, Moruita Sub County Nakapiripirit district, Sticker said he welcomes the PDM initiative by the government of Uganda.

He inspected a 2 billion shillings French food assistance implemented by a consortium of NGO’s aimed strengthening the resilience and wellbeing of communities in Amudat and Nakapiripirit districts.

He identified some of them as the contour farming that helps in lessen of crop destruction among the people who live at the slopes of the mountain.

Sticker however, added that land regeneration is significant in strengthening food security and eco-tourism among the alpine community.

France intervention comes at a time when Karamoja is economically hit by insecurity and climate related shocks among others.

The RDC Nakapiripirit Micheal Saire was grateful to the French government for the unrelenting support to the people of Karamoja.

He noted that the, “strengthening resilience and nutrition wellbeing of communities” project implemented by ACTED, an international non-government organization builds on the best approaches that are in line with PDM.

Malvern Chikanya, the country Director of Food for the Hungry appreciated Nakapiripirit district for allowing them work to work with local government.

He said it’s because of good relations that they have been able to complete the project.

Strengthening, resilience and nutritional wellbeing of communities’ a one year project addressed the needs of 1,584 vulnerable households by improving household food security and combating malnutrition.

Since 2017, the French Embassy in Uganda has supported international non-governmental organizations’ aimed at reinforcing food assistance actions to vulnerable populations and improve their resilience, thus strengthening the humanitarian-development nexus in Uganda.
