The Uganda People's Defence
Forces (UPDF) has concluded its recruitment exercise in Karamoja and Sebei
sub-regions, recruiting 254 youth to join the national army.
In Karamoja, 192 candidates were selected,
while 62 were recruited in Sebei. The exercise was led by Colonel James Barigye
Rukundo and his team from the Third Division.
Rukundo says a large number of applicants
were disqualified due to medical issues, academic qualification shortcomings,
and lack of national IDs.
On the other hand, seven people were arrested
in Sebei for possessing fake academic papers, while 6 others were detained in
Karamoja for similar offenses.
Major Isaac Oware, the third division
information officer, has confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects were
handed over to the police for further investigation.
The successful candidates will undergo
training to prepare them for their roles in the national army.
