Gun violence still remains a huge burden in the Mt.Moroto region as well as Karamoja at large following the release of the police criminal report 2022.

In the report, murder by shooting in the Mt.Moroto region stood at 46 cases at the second place after Kidepo region where Napak was at the top followed by Nakapiripirit and Nabilatuk.

Mt.Moroto region also scored the 12th position country wide on cases of murder by domestic violence, with the most cases registered in Moroto district.

The region was the fourth in the country on the cases of assault, registering 1,341 with Napak district topping the list with 543 cases.

According to the regional police commander for Mt.Moroto, ACP Francis Chemusto, criminality in the region is driven by presence of armed warriors with guns, bows and arrows and misuse of illicit waragi among other factors.

ACP Chemusto was addressing the press this morning at the regional police headquarters in Moroto.

However, the region has registered a decrease in criminality from 5598 in 2021 to 5301 in 2022.

This according to the RPC is as a result of community engagements, enhanced motorized and foot patrols and the use of the K9 dog among others.
