The third division commander Maj.Gen. Don Nabasa has urged the Jie
and Dodoth communities to consider forming a peaceful alliance in efforts to
combat cattle raids and ease tension in Karamoja.
Nabasa was
over the weekend speaking at an inter-district community meeting held at
Moruitit village, Sidok sub-county in Kaabong district.
He observed
that the sub-region continues to witness relative peace with adherence to the
existing presidential amnesty window.
The
inter-district security meeting was prompted by accusations and
counter-accusations between the Jie and Dodoth.
According to
a press release, the third division commander also revealed that the Turkana
pastoralists factor is being addressed to maintain peace along the Uganda-Kenya
borderline.
The meeting
attracted participants including RDCs, District chairpersons, senior security
officers from the UPDF and police, district councilors elders and community
members.
