Authorities Nakapiripirit are holding two people over illicit buying
and selling of pieces of iron sheet allocated by the Office of the Prime
Minister (OPM) for reformed warriors in Karamoja.
According to police spokesperson for Karamoja
Mike Longole, the suspects Lochoro Paskali-the seller and Faizal Kabusera –the buyer,
were arrested on Friday at the Nakapiripirit-Mbale taxi stage in Nakapiripirit
Town Council, Nakapiripirit District.
Longole says
the first suspect unlawfully sold 11 pieces of iron sheets, each at Shs27, 000,
thus violating the intended purpose of the government-issued supplies.
This
enforcement action comes in response to heightened concerns from local leaders
regarding the unauthorized sale of iron sheets designated for reformed Karamojong
warriors and other vulnerable citizens.
The police
has warned the public against selling government properties meant for poverty
alleviation.
