The Uganda national teacher’s union, UNATU Kotido branch has
honoured a number of teachers as they marked World teachers’ day today.
The teachers honored in Kotido are mostly those who
retired from service, yet still active especially in mentorship roles and they
include Naphtali Ocen -currently a teacher at St Comboni Primary school, Romano
Kapel- former senior education officer Kotido, Ambrose Lotukei- former district
education officer Kotido, Mario Aryon , retired head teacher from Kanawat p/s.
Others are Jimmy Ocen, retired teacher from Kotido
girls, Batibwa Laloyo, former head teacher Maaru P/S, Natyang Grace- former
senior assistant education officer, Lokitelaebu, Eyengu David Livingstone from
Losakucha among others.
John Bosco Obwona, the chairperson, UNATU, Kotido
municipality, says the teachers were selected based on their selfless quality
services and discipline exhibited.

Other activities held to mark the day were a football
match between teachers from the municipality and those from the district,
marching around town among others.
The 2023, World Teachers' Day celebrations was marked
under the theme "The teachers we need for the education we want: The
global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage".
