Kotido district chairperson
Paul Komol Lotee has raised concerns over water scarcity affecting the
operations of joint security personnel deployed in the areas bordering Kotido
and neighbouring Turkana in Kenya.
According to
Komol, they have continuously received request from the UPDF officials to
assist with water tankers to transport water to security personnel deployed in
operation areas.
He expressed
fears that the UPDF authorities could withdraw their personnel from such areas,
something he says could lead to escalation of attacks by the armed Turkana
pastoralist and re-arming of armed criminals in Kotido district.
He appealed
to the Minister for Ethics and Integrity Rose Lilly Akello during the launch of
iron sheets distribution in Kotido district to front their plight to the
ministry of water for their intervention.
Komol also
re-echoed the need for more boreholes to be drilled in Karamoja to increase
access to clean water to the local community.
