Residents of Logaman and
Naponga parishes in Longaroe Sub County are experiencing a water crisis despite
having a reliable water source.
This follows
the cut off of access by the care taker of the piped water source built by
UNICEF at Nachuwma in Logama parish, Longaroe Sub County.
The water
source is understood to serve the residents of the two parishes and it also
serves the Health Center and the Community school.
Lokoimoe
Patrick Korobe the LC 5 councilor for Longaroe Sub County during a recent visit
noted that a section of residents had lodged complaints that the care taker has
been reluctant to open the water for the public on grounds that his allowances
were not paid.
Korobe
reveals that reluctance by the attendant to open the water for the locals has
now caused most of them to trek long distances in search of clean water for
drinking and domestic use, with women and children being the most affected.
He expressed
fears that this might also affect the sanitation situation at the health
facility.
He says as
the sub county, they are engaging the involved parties to address the
situation.
