A 57-year-old woman in Nakapiripirit district has committed suicide after consuming suspected rat poison.

Police has identified the deceased as Lucy Ngiro, a resident of Nakorisat village in Namalu sub-county.

According to Mike Longole, the police spokesperson for Karamoja, Ngiro was seen at Nakarisat trading centre drinking together with the husband Daniel Abura.

However, she is reported to have requested some money from her husband, which she used for buying splendor packed waragi together with a rat poison.

Ngiro is said to have consumed the poison while on her way back home but fell unconscious, only to be picked by well-wishers who took her to her home, where was later discovered dead.

Police has visited the scene and conducted postmortem and the body has been handed over to relatives for burial.
